Lo-Fang

Matthew Hermerlin was born in Columbia, Maryland. This singer-songwriter is also a classical musician, trained on the violin from the age of five. In the 2000s, he taught music to children before starting to perform at various venues. In 2011, he released the album Hot Nickels under his real name, with little fanfare. Signed as Lo-Fang by the 4AD label in September 2013, he develops a personal style of alternative rock influenced by symphonic pop. Released in early 2014, his album Blue Film reflects this trend. His cover of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's "You're the One that I Want" attracts the attention of director Baz Luhrmann, who uses it in 2014 as the music for his Chanel N° 5 perfume commercial. The song became a hit in France in autumn 2014.
