Lil Mabu

New York drill rapper Lil Mabu delivers boastful, aggressive rhymes about inner-city violence and disrespecting cops. First appearing with a series of melodic pop-trap tunes while he was an adolescent, he switched up his style with releases like the 2022 mixtape Double M's, which featured drill rappers like Dusty Locane and Sha Ek. His rapid-fire 2023 single "Mathematical Disrespect," clocking in at just under 90 seconds, became a viral hit and charted in the Billboard Hot 100, and he followed it up with songs like "Rich Scholar" and the Fivio Foreign collaboration "Teach Me How to Drill." Born in 2005, Matthew DeLuca is the son of wealthy parents, and he attended the Collegiate School in Manhattan. He began independently releasing music as Lil Mabu in 2019, and achieved a degree of online attention for melancholy emo-rap tunes like 2020's "Heartbreaking" and "Miss Me." He pivoted toward the more aggressive drill style with 2021's "Move It" and subsequent tracks including "Demon Time" and "King of the World." His 2022 mixtape Double M's featured Brooklyn and Bronx drill rappers like Dusty Locane, Sha Ek, and DThang. "No Snitching" (with Locane) emerged as a viral hit on TikTok, and Mabu released additional songs such as "Wicked Witch," "Throw" (with DD Osama), and "Trip to the Hood," which addressed his privileged background. 2023's "Mathematical Disrespect" became his breakout hit, reaching charts in several countries. "Rich Scholar," containing a reference to a New York Post article about Mabu's advantaged status, was released in June. He then issued "At What Cost?" and his second Billboard-charting hit, "Mr. Take Ya B*tch" (featuring Chrisean Rock). "Teach Me How to Drill," with Fivio Foreign, appeared in late December.
