Casey Scott
As a 14-year-old in her home-town of Portland, Oregon, USA, Scott was ejected from her first punk rock band, which she formed two years previously when she was told that they ‘weren’t going to play like the Clash’. She was also kicked out of her drama course at Boston University after protesting at the limitations of the female roles she was offered. Choosing instead to tour Europe as a singer-songwriter, she was immediately detained and imprisoned in London because she did not have a work permit. Her solo work, reminiscent of Patti Smith or Elvis Costello, soon convinced her she needed a proper band to get the message across. Hence the recruitment of Justin McCarthy (bass), Patrick Julius (drums), and Greg Cartwright (lead guitar). The band are entitled the Creeps, and their debut was recorded in three weeks under the production tutelage of Thom Panunzio (who had also worked with U2).
