Nino Segarra

Nino Segarra, born on June 21, 1953, in Maricao, Puerto Rico, is a salsa singer, composer, and musical arranger. His journey began under the mentorship of Luis Millán, who recognized Segarra's talent when he was just 14. Starting with the guitar, he quickly expanded his skills to include the drums. At 16, he played in local bands, eventually making his first recording with the group Mundo de Ponce. Nino Segarra pursued formal music education at the Inter-American University in San Germán, Puerto Rico, where he earned degrees in Applied Music and Music Education. His academic training focused on voice, arrangements, and composition. By the late 1980s, Nino Segarra had not only performed but also created musical arrangements for other notable artists like Andy Montañez, Marvin Santiago, Eddie Santiago, and Oscar de Leon. Que Viva la Salsa, his studio debut, came out in 1987, followed by La Fuente in 1989. Throughout the 1990s, he reached the peak of his popularity through popular albums such as Con la Música Por Dentro (1990), Entre la Espada y la Pared (1991), Loco de Amor (1992), El Maestro (1994), Solo Por Ti (1995), and Romántico Salsero (1998). Over the following decades, LPs like De Nino a Nino (2007), Vida (2009), 30 Años de Trayectoria Musical (2012), Una Parte de Mi (2019), and Antillana Musical (2020) cemented his status as one of the most relevant figures in the salsa music scene. He returned in 2024 with the album Con la Musica Por Fuera, whose title is a nod to his 1990 classic LP.
