Mísia
Susana Maria Alfonso de Aguiar, known as Mísia, born in Porto in 1955, embodies the new generation of Portuguese Fado. The artist takes tradition as her starting point, confronting it with other musical styles and updated arrangements, as on the album Ruas (2009). After an eventful youth in Spain's movida movement in the 1980s, Mísia set out to impose her vision of Fado in Portugal. She first gained recognition in Spain, Japan and France, before triumphing at home, developing her style on the albums Fado (1993), Tanto Menos Tanto Mais (1995), Garras dos Sentidos (1998), Paixoes Diagonais (1999) and Ritual (2001). The singer is also involved in live performance. Her albums Canto (2003) and Drama Box (2005) reflect her need for openness. In 2009, the double album Ruas was released in two parts: Lisboarium for covers of traditional fados, & Tourists for covers of more contemporary artists. Two years later, the album Senhora da Noite is an extension of the show of the same name. In 2015, she paid tribute to the queen of the genre, Amália Rodrigues, on the double album Para Amália.
