JJ Wilde

Canadian singer/songwriter JJ Wilde mixes the unfiltered narratives of her life with a particularly gritty and rousing strain of rock & roll. She introduced herself with a string of singles, including the chart-topping hit "The Rush," leading up to the release of her Juno Award-winning debut album, Ruthless, in 2020. Wilde built on her momentum with singles like "Off the Rails" and "Hands," the latter of which reached the Top Five and appeared on her 2024 EP, Best of Me, Pt. 1. A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Wilde began writing and playing guitar in her teens. She spent much of her early twenties trying to make a go of it as a professional musician with little to show but a massive catalog of songs and a tough skin for rejection. In 2018, feeling herself at a crossroads while working three jobs and gigging in between, she questioned whether or not to shelve her musical ambitions. She decided to stick with it a little longer and almost immediately landed management and a label deal with Black Box Recordings. Culling material from literally hundreds of songs she'd written, Wilde and producer Frederick Fay hammered out a handful of the strongest offerings into a tight but raw four-song EP. Released in 2019, the bluesy indie rock of Wilde Eyes, Steady Hands was deeply rooted in Wilde's own personal journey. One of its songs, "The Rush," topped three different Canadian charts, laying the foundation for her 2020 full-length debut Ruthless. A critical and commercial success, Ruthless won the Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year, the first woman to take that prize since Alanis Morissette in 1996. A year later, she followed up with the six-song EP Wilde, doubling down on her riffy powerhouse sound with songs like "Off the Rails" and "Mercy." She also teamed up with fellow Canadian rocker Billy Raffoul on the three-song release Born to Die. Over the next few years, Wilde continued to deliver new material in the form of singles like "Hands" and "Arizona." Five of these songs were collated into the 2024 EP Best of Me, Pt. 1.
