Ahmed Soultan

Ahmed Soultan was born on June 17, 1978 in Taroudant, a town in southwest Morocco on the Souss plain. Very early on, he began mixing the hip-hop, funk and soul of his generation with traditional sounds such as the darbouka, ribab and guembri of the Gnawas, developing a style he called Afrobian. Mixing Arab and Amazigh identity, he seduced the Maghreb with his first album, Tolérance , in 2005, featuring the track "Ya Salam". Thanks to him and the success of his album, he became one of the leading figures of the "Nayda", the new Moroccan scene, and was invited to perform at the Kora Awards in South Africa, representing North Africa. The same year, he opened for Tiken Jah Fakoly in Dakar. Four years later, he further increased his popularity with a second opus called Code, featuring the single "Achkide". This new spotlight brought him to the attention of Ne-Yo, with whom he recorded the track "Amazing You" in 2010, which appears on the American artist's album The Apprenticeship of Mr. Smith (The Birth of Ne-Yo ). He went on to perform at numerous festivals, and in 2012 was nominated at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 in Frankfurt. The following year, he won "Best Pop Act" at the Meditel Morocco Music Awards. His third album, MHNB (Music Has No Boundaries), released in 2016, features contributions from internationally renowned artists such as George Clinton, Femi Kuti, Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis and RZA.
