Der Sänger und Songwriter Nick Drake ist einer der Künstler, die am meisten zum Aufschwung der britischen Folk-Rock-Szene in den frühen 70er Jahren beigetragen haben. Die meisten seiner Lieder sind von einer barocken Melancholie geprägt, die schließlich von der Zeit geweiht wurde. Zu Lebzeiten unterschätzt, aber heute verehrt, strotzen seine Songs vor Verwunderung und Dunkelheit, sind abwechselnd pastoral, romantisch und geheimnisvoll. Obwohl Nick Drakes warme Baritonstimme und seine mit dem Finger gespielte Akustikgitarre einfache Voraussetzungen sind, bergen seine Lieder eine üppige Komplexität und elegante Magie, deren Zauber seit seinem frühen Tod nur noch größere und spukhaftere Schatten geworfen und seinen Status als Ikone zementiert hat.
