An EP released not long after Ain't My Last Rodeo, Riley Green's proper second album, Way Out Here carries over "Damn Good Day to Leave" from the 2023 LP and by the time it arrives on the record's second half, its cheerful bounce is welcome. The first three songs are devoted to slow ballads that either capture Green in sentimental mode ("Jesus Saves," "Way Out Here") or hoping that another songwriter's gritty sincerity will stick on this particular singer (Bruce Springsteen's "Atlantic City" is given a hammy cover). The light breeze of "Good Morning from Mexico" and "Damn Good Day to Leave" give the EP some levity and momentum that carry through to "Pick a Place" and "Worst Way," softer tunes that lean toward radio-ready country-pop instead of earnest picking, and help end Way Out Here on a high note.
